Sketches for Front Cover Design

#1
This is the basis for one design for the front cover of a magazine. The 'Title' is positioned, vertical along the left-hand side of the page, this allow space around the right-hand & the bottom of the page for other features of the magazine. If this version was used as an outline for the final product, there would be more stories situated across the page varying in size and angle. The barcode is situated in the bottom left hand corner of the page, so it is discreet and not drawing the audiences attention away from the main elements of the page. Here would also be the place in which the Date & Price would be placed. The 'Main image' would be placed along the right-hand side of the page, significantly larger so it covers the majority of the space provided. This would then allow the stories to be positioned around the outside of the image. The 'Main Headline' for the focal story of the Magazine would be positioned, at an angle, along the bottom of the page, covering the bottom half of the focal image of the page to somewhat link the story and the image. This Headline would also be significantly larger than any other elements which would be included on the page, so it also accentuates the Main Story of the page also. Depending on the amount of space featured on the page, I would possibly place around 1 to 2 PUGs, varying in position. The colour scheme for the page would depend on the chosen theme in which I wish to pursue, but would in-definately feature at least 3 core colours.

This is my second possible design for the Front cover of the magazine. This layout is similar to that of the first design but somewhat reversed and aspects such as the Title moved around. The Medium close-up of the focal image is positioned to the left-hand side of the page, covering a significant amount of the page, whilst the elements which are advertising other stories of the page are located along the right-hand side of the page. It would feature more than just 3 stories, probably around 4/5 stories, depending on the amount of space provided. Again, depending on the amount of space provided, I would try to include around 2 PUGs, varying in size. The 'Title' is positioned at the peak of the page, just below the 'Banner' which would feature the advertisement of the elements such as the 'Exclusive Features' & other elements which may be included on the inside of the Magazine. The 'Headline' of the page is mirrored to that of the first design, positioned across the bottom of the page, at a slight angle and significantly larger than the rest of the story advertisement elements. This would also include minor details of the Headline slightly above the Title of the headline, to introduce the audience more the focal story. The 'Barcode' of the Magazine is again, situated in the bottom right-hand corner of the page so it's more discreet from the Main headline.

#3
This is the 3rd possible design for the Front Cover of the Magazine. It is most desired choice of mine in which I wish to encorporate as the design of the cover, as it is completely versitile from the other 2 designs I have created. It features a medium shot of the person attributed as the focal image for the 'Main Story'. The 'Headline' for the said 'Main Story' is positioned stretching across the image, just below the shoulders, with some minor details included just below the 'Headline' to attract the reader more to the Magazine & the 'Main Headline'. The 'Title' for the Magazine is located below the 'Main Headline', written in the significantly largest Font included across the page, so it is emphasized a considerable amount more than other aspects of the page. Other elements of the page would include aselect few minor stories, which would be emphasized around the page, but away from the 'Main Headline' so it does not draw attention away from it, whilst advertising the other stories. Other elements which will be included will be the use of 'PUGs' & a 'Banner', the PUGs (around 1-2 included) being positioned in places where the reader will still be enabled to notice them without being drawn away from the 'Main Headlines' and the Magazine cover & elements themselves. Whilst the 'Banner' would be positioned maybe at a slight angle across the peak of the page, advertising other attributes such as 'Posters' & other 'Exclusives' featured inside. The 'barcode' would be situated in the top left-hand corner, smaller than other features so it is discreet and again does not draw the reader's attention too much. With this cover specifically, I would alter some of the positioning of certain aspects so they blend & work well together more than this sketch does, and so nothing becomes too dominating over other more significant elements. All depending on the colour scheme I select, will depend on what colour will be featured where. This cover is much more conspicuous & interesting than the others.
